Hello, I’m Aysia Lane.
I’m a professionally published, award-winning, Dallas-based journalist and filmmaker. Let’s go behind the scenes of my work together.
How I got here…
I began creating content at a very young age. Writing stories and skits was a fun pastime for me and since I didn’t have actors to play the characters, I played them myself. Then a whirlwind of Windows Moviemaker and CD burning would ensue before I forced my family to crowd around a TV and watch the results. I would come home from school and rather than watching cartoons, I would watch the news with my father and have debates about the events of the world. I was raised to be creative and to question the world around me. Curiosity has been my longest friendship by far.
It made complete sense that I fell into journalism and filmmaking. Between the two I have a plethora of platforms to tell stories with, from podcasting, to documentaries and human interest pieces. The options for telling important stories are endless.

How To Give The Hope Show…Hope - Article
I spent the course of a few months with a team of dancers as they tackled one of their most anticipated performances of the season. This piece follows Carter Alexander as he leads the dancers though the intense process of attempting perfection, from their first few rehearsals to their last dress, this story is one of persistence and passion.
#BlackAtSMU - Documentary
This project took a year and some change to complete. In that time, I learned just how far I was willing to go to tell stories and to share something as close to the truth as possible. This documentary was the result of the work of many and I had the honor of co-directing and co-writing it. It follows five stories of Black students at Southern Methodist University and their battle with racism on campus. It is not yet available for viewing, but here you’ll find the trailer.
The Pony Pod - Podcast
I didn’t step behind the mic too often during my time as The Pony Pod podcast producer, but when I did, I had made sure to have fun. This episode was an important opportunity to garner financial support for our student-run newspaper. Check it out.
Crossroads - Narrative Feature Film
Picture this: it’s the summer of 2022 and you’re on the brink of senior year and taking summer classes. Now let’s throw in doing production design for your first feature film. I always say that I don’t know how I made it out of college alive- This summer is part of how I came to that conclusion- I have always had an affinity towards production design when I was on set, finding myself enthralled with bringing stories to life in a physical way but I never planned on heading a crew for hair, make-up and set dressers! This was one of the most unexpected blessings I could have asked for that gave me a brand new layer of knowledge about filmmaking. The film is still in post, but here you can check out the BTS content on the Instagram.
The Multibillion-Dollar Medical Tourism Hub In The Heart Of Texas - Documentary
I spent the summer of 2023 working with Forbes as an editorial video intern. During my time, I had the pleasure of working with the rapid news team to create breaking news videos daily, while producing content for the Forbes Life Youtube channel and editing a few sit down interviews. All of this was happening as I was producing this long-form documentary about the industry of Medical Tourism in Houston, Texas. 25 videos later, it’s safe to say I learned alot. This piece was my first time solo producing and editing.
‘Boys State’ Documentary Tackles The State Of Our Democracy - Article
I took a step out of my comfort zone with this one. This was my first time combining my skills in both journalism and film, in the midst of creating my own documentary, through writing. I had a blast crafting this one and it was just as scary as it was exciting.
Ohio Republican Lawmakers Pushing An Even More Restrictive Abortion Bill Than Texas’ New Ban - Article
My first professionally published article. This came during my time as a fellow at The Dallas Morning news. I was only a junior in undergrad and was shocked when they placed me on the abortion coverage team. The story had a quick turnaround and confirmed, for me at least, that I could handle real-world journalism.
2020 Live Election Interviews - Instagram Live
I vividly remember setting up my phone tripod and adjusting the camera to avoid a glare in my glasses. This live round of interviews took place during the 2020 election and focused on the upcoming debates, inviting people from different backgrounds and political leanings to comment on the political landscape, the candidates, and their predictions.
